Frequently asked questions.

  • How do I know if we’re a good fit?

Therapy is a big investment of your time and energy. I offer a free 15-minute consultation call so we can chat and see if our 'vibes' click. During the consultation, I encourage you to ask any questions that feel important to you. If it feels right, we’ll move forward; if not, I’m happy to help you find a referral who might be a better match.

What if I’m 'too much' or 'too messy' for therapy?

You aren't too much. Many of my clients have been told they are 'difficult' or 'sensitive' their whole lives. Here, those things are just parts of your unique makeup. You can bring the mess, the big emotions, and the 'taboo' thoughts—I can hold them with you.

Do I need a formal diagnosis (ADHD/Autism) to work with you?

Nope! I honor self-diagnosis and self-identification. If you feel that your brain works in a neurodivergent way, that is enough for us to begin the work. We can explore your traits and how they impact your life without needing a formal piece of paper.

Will you use my chosen name and pronouns even if my insurance has a different name?

Yes, absolutely. For insurance billing and official medical records, I am sometimes required to use the legal name associated with your policy, but I do my best to keep that 'administrative only.' Your identity is respected here.

  • How do you expect me to show up for sessions(dress code, snacks, etc.)?

Honestly? As long as your 'bits' are covered, I truly don't care what you’re wearing. If you’re in pajamas, sweatpants, or have messy 'just rolled out of bed' hair—you are welcome here. I dress for comfort and encourage you to as well! If you need a snack, a coffee, or a fidget toy or comfort item to stay grounded, please bring it. If we're meeting virtually, feel free to wrap yourself in a weighted blanket or have your cat in your lap. You don’t have to 'look the part' to be a 'good client.' My goal is for you to spend your energy on your healing, not on making sure you look 'professional' for me.

Is it okay if I don’t make eye contact or if I fidget during our session?

Absolutely. This is a neuro-affirming space. You are welcome to stim, use fidgets, look away, or sit however you are most comfortable. You don't have to perform 'attentiveness' here; I’d rather you be comfortable and yourself. In fact, you’ll likely see me fidgeting with something or looking away often, too!

What will the first session be like?

Think of the first session as a low-pressure 'get to know you.' We’ll chat about what’s bringing you in and what you hope to get out of therapy. You don’t need to have a perfect narrative of your life ready; we’ll just start where you are. There’s no 'wrong' way to do it.

Do you offer virtual sessions, and how do they work?

Yes! I offer virtual sessions for anyone in North Carolina. I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Virtual sessions are great if you have sensory sensitivities to office environments or if you just feel safer in your own 'nest' at home. I also am flexible and will work with you to create a hybrid schedule of some in-person and some virtual sessions if desired.

  • How do I pay for sessions, and do you take insurance?

I am currently in network with Aetna, Cigna, Optum, and Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). Payments are handled through a secure portal, and I accept all major credit cards, as well as HSA/FSA cards. If I'm out-of-network for you, I can provide a 'Superbill' that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. We can talk through exactly how that works during our first call.

What is your cancellation and late policy?

Consistency is a big part of the work we do together, but I also know that life happens. My policy is designed to respect both your time and mine:

    • 24-Hour Notice: If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice (or no-shows) will result in a $100 fee. Please note that insurance companies won't cover fees for missed sessions.

    • The 15-Minute Window: If you’re running late, don’t panic! I’ll wait for you. However, if you arrive 15 minutes or more past our start time, we won’t be able to hold the session. This is considered a late cancellation and the $100 fee will apply.

    • Checking In: If we have three late cancellations or no-shows, I’ll reach out so we can have a conversation about whether this is the right time for therapy or if a referral might serve you better.

    • Payment & Scheduling: Sessions are 53 minutes long. To keep things running smoothly, if two or more sessions go unpaid, we’ll need to pause future scheduling until your balance is resolved.

Pro-Tip: If you’re having a 'low-capacity' day and can't make it to the office but still want support, we can almost always pivot an in-person session to virtual at the last minute!

What happens if there is bad weather?

Safety is the priority. If travel is unsafe due to snow, ice, or other inclement weather, we won’t let it interrupt your care:

    • Switch to Telehealth: We are encouraged to transition our session to a virtual visit instead of meeting in person. I will notify you as soon as possible and email you a link for our video call.

    • Check-In: If you’re unsure about the weather or road conditions, please reach out and confirm!

    • No Fees for Safety: As long as you notify me in advance that you need to switch to virtual or reschedule due to weather, no cancellation fee will apply.

    • A Quick Reminder: Please note that 'no-shows' without any notice will still be charged the standard fee, so just keep me in the loop!

How do I get in touch between sessions?

For scheduling and non-urgent questions, email is best. I typically respond within 24–48 hours on business days. If you're experiencing a crisis, please use the emergency resources listed at the bottom of my website, as I am not available for 24/7 crisis support.
